About the Author

Viola Brunette Braem became an elementary one-room school teacher after graduating from the Door-Kewaunee Teacher's College in Algoma, Wisconsin. Her first contract was with the Hawthorne District in Kewaunee County, near Luxemburg. There were seven grades at that school with thirteen pupils. She continued her education at the University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh, receiving a B.S. and M.S. in Education. When she retired from teaching she knew that she wanted to write. She has plans for at least two more books to follow Woodside. Before she left Barron County she married Wally Braem, the ceremony performed by his father, the Reverend Walter Bream, pastor at Pip Lake Ev. Lutheran Church. The couple went across the state to live in Algoma until 1975. They raised two daughters, Mary Ann Younkle and Julie Kroll.
